How You Can Create a Media Kit for Potential Advertisers on Your Blog

Updated on September 1, 2012

Do You Want Paid Sponsors for Your Blog?

Who doesn't?? I'm going to tell you how you can make your blog look professional to advertisers and sponsors, enticing them to purchase ad space on your site. There are a lot of different ways to make a Media Kit and a lot of varying examples out there. I'm going to show you what I did; feel free to adapt it to your liking.

I found some great information in the new book, Mom Blogging for Dummies by Wendy Piersall, looking at other blogs for examples and I also played around on Microsoft Word.

You'll need Microsoft Word to follow along with this tutorial. I'm sure there are other programs that will allow you use similar features, however.

A Media Kit is a document or brochure created by the blogger to show potential sponsors their advertising options. It also reveals statistics for that blog. Continue reading to find out more.

What to Include in Your Media Kit

Open Microsoft Word and view the Project Gallery. In the left sidebar, select business layouts and then brochures. From there, you can choose the layout and colors most pleasing to you or relevant to the look and feel of your blog.

My Media Kit has 4 Pages. I'll go through them with you.

Page 1.) Talk about Yourself

What can you tell us about yourself? Make it personable and relevant to your blog topics. It doesn't need to be very long - one paragraph at the most. Try to make it fun. Let the reader know a little bit about your personality as it comes out in your writings style.

Write about your blog in the second paragraph. What do you write about? What value can you offer your readers? Do you have a Mission Statement? In this section, I also included my accolade on hubpages (I was ecstatic when I got it and I'm still pretty proud of it so I added it in there). Feel free to include your accomplishments!

Page 2.) Title and Overview

I know what you're thinking: 'Shouldn't that be page 1??' Well, yes. The reason it's page 2 is that was how the layout worked out on Microsoft Word - it's actually on the right side of page 1. You can flop them if you'd like! I included the name of my blog, tagline, e-mail address, button, and the products and services I offer. Mine are all linked to the pages on my blog where these things can be found. To do this, go to INSERT at the top and then all the way down to HYPERLINK.

Page 3.) Statistics

If you don't have Analytics Software on your blog, go right now to Google Analytics and Quantcast and set it up. It won't be retroactive so you won't have these statistics on any posts before you're set up. That's why I'm telling you to go get started now.

On this page, I have a screen shot of my Tweets and Twitter followers, my blog page views, my Quantcast graph and a list of people who make up my Target Audience. Show off your readership!

Page 4.) Rate Card - Advertising Packages

When deciding what to charge for advertising take into account everything you have to offer - think about how many blog followers you have, but also your twitter followers, facebook fans and Google+ Circle Buddies (what are we calling people in our circles in G+ by the way??). I digress... deciding what to charge could be a whole other hub.

I have a Rate Card that offers a variety of prices - it accommodates those with small budgets and those with large budgets. Win - win. In addition to that, I have different features offered in my Basic and Premium packages; again - for more variety in price. Those who purchase a Premium package get a lot more in terms of promotion.

Technical Stuff

Do you notice how I have my little logo in the corner of each page? You should do something to keep a consistent feel throughout the entire Media Kit.

Now that you have your Media Kit on Microsoft Word, you need to convert it to PDF format. The website I used for this was Free PDF Converter - freepdfconvert.com. It worked well - quick and easy. Now save your new PDF. Next, you'll have to store it on-line so you can provide your readers with the URL to download it. I used a website called 4shared.com and am pretty happy with it. Grab the URL after it's uploaded and paste it into the PR Info Page on your blog (or wherever you intend on having it).

If you want to see my Full Media Kit or my Blog Page where it's located, just go to Advertise with Cupcakes and check it out.

Thanks for reading; I hope this helped!!
